Getting to know...Gill
Where are you from? Dublin
Who are your biggest influences? Visually I'd say Wes Anderson, I love his Aesthetic, His films are so dream like and yet always have such a strong and intentional visual message. He creates these magical scenes mixing tchotchkes, vintage Kitsch with symmetry and strong fabrics it's such a beautiful combination so visually appealing . I love how each of his movies have a very distinct & very individual Colour pallette. His shots are always composed beautifully. he is an absolute genius in my opinion.
If you could live in any time and place when & where would you choose? Hmmm i think Seattle in the 90's I was ten years too late... Although im glad that i'm not 44 right now haha.
What is your biggest fear? oh god... just one? hmmm so many to choose from... probably heights anything higher than a chair and my legs start thinking I am elvis.
What is your favourite book/movie? Favourite book.... Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahnuik he is such an incredible writer so creative it's hard to even comprehend how so many ideas come out of one man!! His novel Lullaby is a close second though. It was a really tough choice! I'm also a True Crime fanatic so I gobble up anything from Harold Schechter and Ann Rule. My favourite movie....JAWS, it lead to a lifetime obsession with Sharks.
What is your favourite thing about your career? I love that I get to be artistic everyday, I love to create and am always working away on something. I feel stifled when I don't get to express myself so getting to do that everyday is a dream come true. what's not to love? I also love getting to work with Luis, I have learned so much from him and we have such different styles its very inspiring working with someone who approaches things differently from you. It makes me push my boundaries everyday. It helps that we make each other laugh a lot...
What inspires you? It depends on my mood really but a lot of the time its music and films. I love to watch movies with a very strong aesthetic, Michel Gondry, Mike Mills & Wes Anderson are some of my favourite directors. And for music i just have to listen to Elliott Smith and im full of ideas! I also draw a lot of inspiration from Flowers and Architecture. I just love to lose myself in a new city, I could look at old buildings forever and not get bored.
What did you want to be when you were young? I wanted to be an artist, i was a huge art nerd from the time I was a kid, I was very lucky to have parents that encouraged me and even spent their holidays going from gallery to gallery with a very enthusiastic child.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? hmmmm is tea & toast a meal? im picking tea & toast!
Who is your favorite artist? I'm a huge fan of the Young British Artists, Jenny Saville, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Damien Hirst - I remember seeing this incredible series Hirst did documenting a woman's journey from being a heroin addict to recovery using big thick layers of paint I was obsessed, Jake and Dinos Chapman. I also love Warhol, Hieronymus Bosch, Alfons mucha, Dali i could go on and on and on...
What is your favourite design trend of 2019? I love the use of bold colour & Gradients that was very present this year.
What do you want to see more of in design for 2020? Geometry & Line art especially mixed with Open concept masking...something whimsical and entertaining!

Getting to know...Luis

Where are you from? I was born in Baja California, Mexico; grew up in Southern California in the US and have now lived in Ireland for more than half of my life so, your guess is as good as mine.
Who are your biggest influences? - Ogilvy and Mather, without a doubt.
If you could live in any time and place when & where would you choose? I love living in remote places to just let the landscape and nature be my inspiration at times. Living in Kenmare is a dream come true so, I don't have to dream about that anymore.
What is your biggest fear? I have none. Ok, maybe spiders and gooey looking creatures.
What is your favourite book/movie? - My favourite book is 'The Little Prince' by  Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and the fables of Aesop, love them! I read them all the time. I wish I could create a series of small up-to-modern-day versions of all the fables with illustrations of my own.
What is your favourite thing about your career? - The ability to create something new every time. The interaction between two minds and the application of real science behind everyday design. Also, knowing that your design converts to real targets and that my work contributes to it.
What inspires you?- Everything! I think I have a curious disposition at all times. I observe the world around me and I am always thinking of different ways to replicate or ways to improve design around me. Also, research into design psychology behaviour inspires me. It fascinates me to know we are all influenced by colour, shape and form even when we aren't aware of it. Also, ancient symbology. We seem to be surrounded by the same symbols since the dawn of civilisation and we continue to respond to them in the same manner as it did back then, except we don't know as much about them as our ancestors did.
What did you want to be when you were small?I wanted to be an Architect or a National Geographic photographer. Didn't quite work out that way but I am loving what I am now.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? - Overnight oats for sure and pancakes.
Who is your favourite artist? - All impressionist and the Dutch classic painters for the use of light and shadows as well as technique.
What is your favourite design trend of 2019? - Bold colours, Asymmetric design and natural looking photos.
What do you want to see more of in design for 2020? - Monochromatic design and collages of drawing and photos. i think they make design way more fun to look at and experience.
